Each of us has indigenous ancestral healing traditions that we can count on. They are like roots that hold our lives together, provide support, restore growth and promote health and happiness. Science has brought modern times closer to the power of ancient indigenous medicine. I remember teachings from conversations and stories (epics and myths) about respect to nature, careful choice of words, eating together, using unadulterated seed, mineral hot spring baths, volcanic ashes for mudpacks and more. These traditions may differ slightly from culture to culture, but we inevitably find commonalities that we can all share and benefit from. What is listed here is common in many traditions. They are but a few of the many ways to facilitate healing in cases of compromised health. Don’t take our word for it. Ask your folks. Experience it.
Hilot is a Filipino word that is interchangeably used to refer to a healing art that involves body work and energetic work, as well as the healer who comes from a lineage of hilot practitioners. A hilot session begins with a salutation to honor the diwata (forces in nature) and ninuno (ancestors) operating in kaluwalhatian (peace). Thanks is offered for empowering the practitioner with the tradition that she may humbly assist in creating harmony in the client’s whole being (body-mind-spirit-emotions). Bentusa (cupping) is an indigenous art of detox, done by heating cups over ginger or other herbs to produce a vacuum when strategically placed on the muscular parts of the body. The vacuum sucks the skin, taking away toxins and other negative energy that contributes to pain or swelling. I recommend bentusa when pain is moderate to severe, or when it is chronic. Bentusa can also be used on a periodic basis as a preventative measure before a serious condition takes hold in the body. Bentusa can be used alone or in combination with hilot. The combination has been found by others to be most effective.
There is something almost magical about the scents of flowers, seeds, trees, fresh air, rainforests, etc. They have helped me transcend the most challenging moments in my life. They can help elevate your consciousness too, by making you aware of the beautiful things around you every day. Aromatherapy goes far back in history, to when herbs were a major element in traditional healing arts. It affects the limbic system which is the area of the brain that regulates emotions and memory. It has also been found to have the beneficial effects of decreasing stress, combating infection, detoxification, and treating health disorders. Aromatherapy is integrated into my sessions unless clients have a particular sensitivity. Practical suggestions for the daily use of certain essential oils are often incorporated into the session.
All energy pathways are found within the hands and feet. If you touch, feel and listen carefully, they speak to you. Reflexology gives many of my clients the most pleasure and relief from pain. I can facilitate the healing process with a combination of gentle touches, soothing strokes, steady pressure movements, smooth rotating motions and firm stretches. I know this makes a big difference in relaxing the body as well as the spirit of my clients. I use organic oil and essential oils as I work with your feet and hands. When desired I can teach you some basic techniques so that you can feel comfortable doing them for yourself and family. Private sessions vary from half an hour to an hour.
Please call for an appointment. While services are usually provided in our office, house calls for the elderly and those in fragile condition are an available option.
