Let me share the exchange of text messages that I had with a colleague who was looking to change jobs and felt that she needed guidance.

She:  ” I have a question for you. There is a position open at?? (Let’s keep it private). Should I apply for it? ”
Let me share the exchange of text messages that I had with a colleague who was looking to change jobs and felt that she needed guidance.

She:  ” I have a question for you. There is a position open at?? (Let’s keep it private). Should I apply for it? ”

Me: “For sure the benefits may be better.”  You will work harder and they have on call schedule.”  You will learn more.”  Clientele will be different due to geographical location.”  I saw that ad as well and I am not sure if people leave the position or they need more help.”

(My silent thoughts: ” I wanted her to be aware of the difference in the current clientele whom she is currently serving and be ready for a change of environment.”  I wanted her to see underlying reasons of vacancy in the shortage of nurses willing to take it such position).

She: “Thanks Grace.”  I am worried that they won’t consider me because I don’t have the clinical experience but I guess I won’t know until I try.”  Do you feel like the care for your mom was good?)

(Silent thought on her question about my mother: She knows that I know the place because my mother belonged to the place for two months before I took my mother home to the Philippines to be cared for directly by my sister Patty.”  She wants to be a part of a quality service institution just as she does now.)

Me:”  They will consider you because you are already in home care.”  Yes, the care was good.”  The place is more dynamic because their program is bigger. ” I had an interview at??? ( I mentioned another place but I’m keeping it private) thinking  that the position and organization would be okay for me.”  I am glad I did the interview because I knew right there and then that it was not for me.”

(Silent thought:”  It is okay to check out the place of her interest and find out for herself.)

She: “When did you interview there? I had thought about working with ??? because there are so many here but I was thinking, they would not consider me either .”  I guess I won’t know until I try. ”

Me: “Around 4 years ago.”  Just apply anywhere you want.  Do not think of what you do not have.”  If you apply thinking of your “lack” that will reflect on you.”

(Silent thought:”  She is skilled and dedicated to provide the quality service and intelligent enough to be trained by any organization.”  Instead of focusing on her perceived lack, she has to acknowledge the abundance that she currently has and use that as a strong foundation when she applies.)

She: “Your so positive and Your so right.”  I am done with this quarter in school in two weeks.”  I will work on it during my break and look to you for a pep talk!”  Thanks.

Me: ” Sure.  In ??? hospital (where I used to work), they used to tell me that I would have been a very good nurse recruiter or human resource staff of some sort because I have guided, influenced and inspired many individuals to take on new positions or new educations that opens up new careers.”

MORE THOUGHTS FOR THE READERS:

When confronted with some issues that seem to bring out doubts, fears, insecurities and “not good enough” feelings that could manifest physically in your body such as butterflies in your gut, heart palpitations, fast breathing,”  perspiring hands, frequent bathroom visits , headaches or constipations, think ABUNDANCE and do the following:

  • Write down your personal assets – from finance to careers to behaviors
  • Connect (text, email or call) with someone whom you trust with your idea whatever it may be
  • Take a break from your usual routine no matter how comfortable you are with your routine.  Just take a break. YOU WILL HAVE THE TIME WHEN YOU WANT THE TIME TO HAVE.”  REMEMBER IT IS JUST ONE COIN-TWO SIDES. ” coin-side
  • Practice COURAGE (JUST GO FOR WHAT YOU ARE THINKING) like you do not care to lose anything because there is nothing to lose (except for your perceived inadequacy) AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN.
  • Take a deep breath, face the sun in the morning and the moon at night as you tell yourself. HOW SUPER BLESSED YOU ARE FOR ANOTHER BREATH/ANOTHER LIFETIME.

I like to REMEMBER that our mind is a rarefied body and our body is a solidified mind.  Everything matters in health.”  I hope this article helps you in one way or another.  I would love to hear your stories.Let me know how else I can help you.
